Happy summer break!
Some new items, some familiar, and some information about Sewanee's Community Action Committee (CAC)
Hello! I’m Ansley, and I’m one of the South Cumberland farmer’s market interns for this summer. There’s much to be excited about, so keep on reading…
First, if you are not already familiar with the Community Action Committee (CAC) in Sewanee, they are an organization committed to active outreach in the Sewanee area through the Christian faith directed by Sarah Edmonds. The CAC has several valuable missions, such as aiding those in crisis, providing services for basic human needs, and identifying ways to break the cycle of poverty. They are a partner of Rooted Here, and we take donations from them and hold them in an account for the purchasing of local food from farmers of our market. You can buy a donation to the CAC/Rooted Here food program in our shopfront in the “Special Offers” category. Other donation options may be found in the “Non-Foods” category.
Second, summertime is almost among us, which calls for a few very important things…

CHERRIES & STRAWBERRIES! Order them before they are gone!

Peas, radishes, broccoli & leafy greens galore, such as purple greens, collard greens, Swiss chard, rainbow chard, collard greens, kale, and many more from 4G Farm, Seven Pines, Bird Fork Farm, The Wild Berry Farm and others. Additionally, be on the lookout for a vast selection of microgreens from Chicken Little Farm.
Finally, our herbal tincture of the week is…drumroll…Ashwagandha! From Bird Fork Farm.

What is this enticing substance, you might ask? Ashwagandha is a traditional Ayurvedic root that has been worked as an adaptogenic tonic herb. It helps regulate the nervous system, blood sugar, increases testosterone, and aids with focus and sleep!
Ingredients in the tincture include alcohol, water, and certified naturally grown Ashwagandha root. To consume these extracts, test with one drop and work your way up as needed. Either place the extract directly under your tongue or add it to water, coffee, tea, or food items.
* Use with caution if you have a nightshade allergy or undergo thyroid complications.
That’s all for now! Stay tuned for more updates throughout this lovely southeastern summer.
